Ingredients

For the beef filling

  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas Can substitute with fresh peas.
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme Fresh herbs can be used for better flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the topping

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Use leftover or store-bought mashed potatoes for convenience.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional) Cheddar cheese works well on top.

Method

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  • Add the onion, carrots, and garlic, cooking until they soften.
  • Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, peas, salt, and pepper.

Assembly

  • In a baking dish, layer the beef mixture and top it with the mashed potatoes.
  • Optional: Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.
