Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix (about 28g)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, or Swiss)
  • 1 tomato, sliced (optional)
  • 1 red onion, sliced (optional)
  • 4 leaves lettuce (optional)

Method

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, French onion soup mix, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix until just combined — don’t overwork it.
  • Divide mixture into 4 equal parts and shape into burger patties.
  • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side, or until cooked through and browned.
  • In the last minute of cooking, place cheese slices on top to melt.
  • Toast the buns if desired, then assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, and onion slices.
  • Serve hot with your favorite side dishes.

Notes
