Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef to reduce grease.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with Monterey Jack or pepper jack.
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups frozen French fries Fresh fries can be used, but adjust cooking time.
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • tomatoes Optional for garnish.
  • lettuce Optional for garnish.

Method

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in beef broth and bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper.

Layering and Baking

  • In a greased casserole dish, layer the meat mixture, topping it with sour cream and half of the shredded cheese.
  • Add a layer of frozen French fries on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until fries are cooked and golden.
  • Remove from oven and top with the remaining cheese. Return to oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted.

Serving

  • This casserole is best served hot right out of the oven. Allow everyone to scoop their own portions.

Notes
