Ingredients
For the cookie dough
- 1 cup butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened for easy mixing.
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Add-ins
- 1 cup dried cranberries Fresh cranberries can be too tart and watery.
- 1 cup orange zest For extra flavor, use fresh orange zest.
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Method
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
- Fold in the cranberries, orange zest, and nuts if using.
- Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Baking
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes
These cookies are fantastic warm or at room temperature. They make lovely gifts when wrapped in a pretty box or tin. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Can freeze for up to three months.
