Dough Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter Make sure it's active.
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened Ensure it's softened for easy spreading.
- 1 teaspoon salt
Filling
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Egg Wash
- 1 egg for egg wash
Method
Dough Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Stir until dissolved.
- Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Chilling and Rolling
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the softened butter over the surface.
- Fold the dough into thirds, then wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Roll it out again and fold it into thirds two more times, refrigerating in between each fold.
Filling and Shaping
- After the final roll, spread chocolate chips evenly on the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly and cut it into slices.
Baking
- Place the slices on a baking sheet and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and brush the tops with the egg wash.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serving
- Let cool before serving. Enjoy fresh out of the oven.

Notes
These croissants are best enjoyed warm for breakfast or as a snack. Store leftovers in an airtight container, or freeze for longer storage. Reheat in the oven to enjoy later.
