Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter Make sure it's active.
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Ensure it's softened for easy spreading.
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg for egg wash

Method

Dough Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Stir until dissolved.
  • Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.

Chilling and Rolling

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the softened butter over the surface.
  • Fold the dough into thirds, then wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll it out again and fold it into thirds two more times, refrigerating in between each fold.

Filling and Shaping

  • After the final roll, spread chocolate chips evenly on the dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly and cut it into slices.

Baking

  • Place the slices on a baking sheet and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and brush the tops with the egg wash.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Serving

  • Let cool before serving. Enjoy fresh out of the oven.
