Ingredients

For the dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Check expiration date for effectiveness.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk Around 110°F (43°C).
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For mixing in

  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (e.g., raisins, cranberries)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts, pecans)

Method

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Add melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract into the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
  • Punch down the dough and fold in dried fruit and nuts.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  • Let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes
