Bread Ingredients

  • 3 cups active sourdough starter Ensure starter is active for best results.
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Honey Butter Spread

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened For mixing with honey.
  • 1/4 cup honey Can adjust to taste.
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon Adjust for sweetness preference.

Method

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter and warm water. Mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, and cinnamon together. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  • While the dough is rising, prepare the honey butter by mixing softened butter with honey and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf.
  • Transfer the loaf onto parchment paper and let rise for another 30-60 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the Dutch oven from the oven, place the parchment with the dough inside, cover, and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
  • Spread the honey butter on slices to enjoy.

Notes
