- 3 cups active sourdough starter Ensure starter is active for best results.
- 1 cup warm water
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
Honey Butter Spread
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened For mixing with honey.
- 1/4 cup honey Can adjust to taste.
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon Adjust for sweetness preference.
Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter and warm water. Mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, and cinnamon together. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the honey butter by mixing softened butter with honey and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf.
- Transfer the loaf onto parchment paper and let rise for another 30-60 minutes.
- Carefully remove the Dutch oven from the oven, place the parchment with the dough inside, cover, and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
- Spread the honey butter on slices to enjoy.

Notes
Store the bread in an airtight container or resealable bag at room temperature for up to 3 days or wrap tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Adjust cinnamon and honey in the butter to suit your taste.
