Ingredients
Meatball Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking Liquid
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 cups caramelized onions (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese) Add just before serving
Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place the meatballs in the crockpot.
- In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth and caramelized onions together, then pour it over the meatballs in the crockpot.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
- About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the top and cover again until melted.
