Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 4 cups fresh broccoli florets (about 300 grams)
- 1 cup low sodium beef broth
- ⅓ cup tamari or soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
- ½ medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon stevia or monk fruit sweetener (optional)
- 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder or xanthan gum (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 stalks green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Method
Preparation
- Thinly slice the flank steak or sirloin against the grain. To make slicing easier, freeze the beef for about 15 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the beef broth, tamari or soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, sweetener (if using), and red pepper flakes (if using).
Cooking
- Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the crockpot.
- Add the sliced beef on top and pour the sauce mixture over everything. Toss gently with tongs to coat.
- Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Keep the lid closed as much as you can.
- About 20-30 minutes before serving, add the fresh broccoli florets on top. Stir gently and cover again.
- If you want to thicken the sauce, mix the arrowroot powder or xanthan gum with cold water to make a slurry. Stir this into the crockpot after adding the broccoli. Let it cook for the last 20-30 minutes.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Finally, garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes
For the best flavor, use high-quality beef and fresh ingredients. If you prefer a thicker sauce, remember to add the thickening agent as described. Feel free to add more vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas if you wish. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
