  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 lb ground pork Optional; can be replaced with additional ground beef or turkey.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes Canned tomatoes can be replaced with fresh tomatoes.
  • 4 cups beef broth For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth.
  • 1 head green cabbage, chopped Can use frozen cabbage if fresh is unavailable.

Grains and Seasonings

  • 1 cup rice Both white and brown rice work; adjust cooking time for brown rice.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method

Preparation

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef and pork with the onion and garlic until cooked through. Drain excess fat.

Cooking

  • Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, chopped cabbage, rice, paprika, salt, and pepper to the pot.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, until the cabbage and rice are tender.
  • Adjust seasoning as needed and serve hot.
