Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For Serving

Method

Cooking the Patties

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Shape the ground beef into patties and season them with salt and pepper.
  • Cook the patties in the skillet until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Remove the patties and set them aside.

Making the Gravy

  • In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing to a simmer.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve the hamburger steaks hot over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice.
  • Pour the rich brown gravy generously over the patties to soak into the sides.
  • Add a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad to balance the meal.
