  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed Make sure your bananas are very ripe for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder Increase to 3/4 cup for a richer chocolate flavor.
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or honey Optional for sweetness. Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips Optional.

Method

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and applesauce.
  • Add the cocoa powder, whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt, maple syrup (if using), and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
  • Fold in dairy-free chocolate chips if desired.
  • Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.

Baking

  • Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
