Ingredients
Chicken and Seasonings
- 3 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6-8 ounces each)
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- a pinch cayenne pepper (optional, for a subtle kick)
- to taste salt and freshly ground black pepper
Garlic Butter Sauce
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (or ghee for dairy-free)
- 3 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
- 2 teaspoons sugar-free honey substitute
Method
Preparation
- Carefully score the top of each chicken breast in a shallow grid pattern using a sharp knife.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, cayenne pepper (if using), and a generous pinch of salt and pepper.
- Generously rub this seasoning mix all over both sides of the scored chicken breasts.
Cooking
- Place the seasoned chicken in your air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it (cook in batches if necessary).
- Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 14-16 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- While the chicken is cooking, prepare the garlic butter sauce: Stir together the melted butter, minced fresh garlic, and sugar-free honey substitute in another small bowl.
- Around the 14-minute mark, open the air fryer and brush the garlic butter mixture over the chicken breasts.
- Return chicken to the air fryer and cook for an additional 2 minutes to allow the garlic butter to caramelize.
- Brush any remaining garlic butter over the chicken just before serving.
