Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 medium sweet onions Choose sweet onions for a milder flavor.
  • 1 stick salted butter 8 tablespoons, cut into small cubes.
  • 6 to 8 cloves garlic To be added to the baking dish.
  • Garlic Salt, Onion Powder, Black Pepper, Dried Parsley, Cajun Seasoning, Paprika Measurements to be eyeballed.
  • 1 couple of shakes soy sauce Drizzle on top of each onion.

Method

Preparation

  • Cut the tops and ends off the onions, and peel them, removing the single outer layer.
  • Core out the center of each onion with a small knife or apple corer, leaving the bottom intact.
  • Place the onions in a small baking dish, keeping them close together.
  • Season the tops and holes of the onions well with garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, dried parsley, Cajun seasoning, and paprika.
  • Press 2 to 3 cubes of butter into the centers of each onion.
  • Melt the remaining butter and mix it with seasonings. Pour this butter over each onion.
  • Add the cloves of garlic to the bottom of the baking dish and drizzle soy sauce on top of each onion.
  • Cover the dish with a single piece of foil.

Baking

  • Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, keeping an eye on the baking time depending on onion size.
  • The onions are done when soft but intact, and the tops are golden brown.

Serving

  • Serve by adding a garlic clove to the center of each onion and pouring some butter sauce over the top.

Notes

If you have leftovers, cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until warm. You can make this dish ahead of time and store the prepared onions in the refrigerator.
