Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly) Ensure the sourdough starter is active before use.
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 amount needed Flour for dusting Use as needed during kneading and shaping.

Method

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
  • Add the sourdough starter and warm water into the bowl, and combine until it forms a shaggy dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for about 4 to 6 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping and Scoring

  • Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
  • Shape your dough into a round or loaf, depending on your preference.
  • Take a knife or a razor blade to score designs into the top of your dough.
  • Let it rise again for an hour.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with a baking stone or sheet inside.
  • Once preheated, carefully transfer the dough to the hot stone or sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes
