Ingredients
For the Dough
- 2 cups sourdough starter Ensure the starter is active and bubbly
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour You can replace half with whole wheat flour for a heartier roll
For the Egg Wash
- 1 each egg Beaten for brushing on top of the rolls
Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, melted butter, and salt.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place them on a baking sheet.
- Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the rolls with beaten egg for a golden crust.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes
