Ingredients

For the fruit skewers

  • 1 lb strawberries, grapes, or other fruit of choice About 30 pieces, make sure the fruit is dry

For the candy coating

  • 2 cups white sugar You can experiment with different types of sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method

Preparation

  • Wash the fruit thoroughly and pat them dry with a towel. Remove any leaves, stems, or inedible parts.
  • Place the fruit onto skewers, using about 3 pieces per skewer.

Making the syrup

  • In a small pot on low to medium heat, add sugar and water. Do not stir the mixture.
  • Allow it to come to a boil and then let it simmer until thick and amber, about 10-20 minutes.
  • To check if the syrup is ready, drizzle a spoonful into a bowl of ice water. If it hardens quickly and cracks when bent, it’s ready to use.

Coating the fruit

  • Quickly dip the fruit skewers into the syrup, swirling them for an even coating.
  • Immediately place the skewers in the ice water bath to cool and harden.

Serving

  • Place the skewers on a plate and serve immediately.
