- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly) Ensure the starter is active before use.
- 1 cup warm water Use lukewarm water, not hot.
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 large apple (peeled, cored, and diced) Any type of apple can be used.
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Extra flour for dusting For kneading the dough.
Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Gently fold in the diced apple and cinnamon, ensuring even distribution.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the shaped loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Make a few shallow cuts on the top of the loaf for decoration, then bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
