Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly) Ensure the starter is active before use.
  • 1 cup warm water Use lukewarm water, not hot.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 large apple (peeled, cored, and diced) Any type of apple can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Extra flour for dusting For kneading the dough.

Method

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Mix well.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Gently fold in the diced apple and cinnamon, ensuring even distribution.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the shaped loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Make a few shallow cuts on the top of the loaf for decoration, then bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
